Famed polar explorer to visit Â鶹ÊÓƵ school
Robert Swan was the first to walk unsupported to both poles
January 7, 2015 (Â鶹ÊÓƵ): Famed polar explorer and motivational speaker Robert Swan will make a presentation about Antarctica and environmentalism to students at Leonardo da Vinci K-8 School from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday (January 9).
Swan holds the distinction of being the first person ever to walk unsupported – meaning without GPS, food drops or radio communications – to both the North and South Poles. His observations of the environment during these treks led him to found 2041, an organization dedicated to educating future leaders about environmental issues.
School named for Dr. King plans march for kindness, justice
Event will kick off Kindness Week at Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School
January 13, 2015 (Â鶹ÊÓƵ): A school named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will hold a march for kindness and justice on Thursday (January 15) – the late civil rights activist’s birthday.
The march around the Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School campus in Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Pocket neighborhood will kick off a Kindness Week in which students will be challenged to perform acts of kindness to honor Dr. King’s legacy, said Principal Denise Lee.

What:
In partnership with Target and others, the nonprofit
organization K to College will distribute $65 packages
of school and dental supplies to all 270 students at Susan B.
Anthony Elementary School in Â鶹ÊÓƵ. These kits are part of
more than 10,000 that were assembled by more than 500 volunteers
at the Memorial Auditorium in December. K to College is a
nonprofit with the mission of addressing the unmet material needs
of homeless and other impoverished children, and adults working
towards self-sufficiency.
SCUSD to celebrate $2.2 million McClatchy gym upgrade
78-year-old gym now has air conditioning for the first time
February 4, 2015 (Â鶹ÊÓƵ): SCUSD will cut the ribbon on C.K. McClatchy High School’s newly renovated gym on Friday (February 6). The ceremony will take place just before McClatchy’s No. 1-ranked girls basketball team takes on the Cardinals of Laguna Creek.

March 10, 2015 (Â鶹ÊÓƵ): Congresswoman Doris Matsui will join state Assemblyman Kevin McCarty and other elected officials on Thursday (March 12) at an official ribbon-cutting for the new WellSpace Community Health Center at Hiram Johnson High School.
