John F. Kennedy AP Capstone/PACE
Grades 9-12

School Program

Program Information

AP Capstone/PACE offers students a four-year advanced academic program and JFK is the only SCUSD school to offer this program. Each AP Capstone student takes a rigorous college-prep curriculum, including cohorted English and History courses in grade 9 to prepare them for AP Seminar in place of English 10. As juniors, they take AP Research. Additionally, students must take at least 4 other AP classes to qualify for the AP Capstone diploma. Students who complete the two-year program of AP Seminar and AP Research can earn one of two different awards. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. These skills are key for all college bound students and receiving an AP Capstone Diploma indicates to colleges and universities that these students will be prepared to thrive in college.

A description of the program can be found from the College Board.
