$5,000 SCHOLARSHIP PER YEAR FOR FOUR YEARS

STUDENT MUST BE NOMINATED BY SITE COMMITTEE TO APPLY

APPLICATION TO THOSE NOMINATED WILL BE AVAILABLE January 16, 2024 – April 12, 2024

TRUSTEES:

  • Mayor (or City Manager)
  • Superintendent, City of Â鶹ÊÓƵ
  • SCUSD Principal of the most populous high school

HISTORY:

Established in 1950, according to the terms of the will of George H. Clark, in agreement with the Mayor, City of Â鶹ÊÓƵ

ELIGIBILITY:        

One student from each of the district’s comprehensive high schools, as recommended by the Principal and staff, deemed to be the most outstanding student of that high school.  Below is the selection criteria for the highest achieving high school student:

  • Scholarship (highest ranking student per SAT scores and GPA)
  • Citizenship (consistent evidence of maturity and responsibility)
  • Community (involvement and individual initiative)
  • Extra curricular activities (teamwork and leadership qualities)
  • Personal statement of educational and vocational goals
  • Financial need

When high school staff has made its selection, the student shall be notified by the Principal no later than Friday, February 3, 2023.

The selected student must submit an online application and supporting documents between February 6, 2023 – April 14, 2023.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER:

The Mayor, City of Â鶹ÊÓƵ, and the Superintendent (or designee), Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District, will announce the winner of the George H. Clark Scholarship at a meeting of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Council.  The student and his/her parents/guardians will be invited to attend this meeting.

APPLICATION ATTACHMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Student Letter Addressed to Trustees, George Clark Memorial Scholarship (student letter must be typed in the appropriate box on the application, must be 750 words or less and must include the following):

Describe your educational and vocational goals (short-term and long-term)

How you plan to use the scholarship funds

2. Two Letters of Recommendation (MUST INCLUDE):

  • Letters from outside the school (i.e. employer, pastor, youth leader, or community leader)

3. Transcript:

  • An unofficial transcript of student’s high school record, including the first semester grades of your senior year

4. College Enrollment:

  • Verification of acceptance to a two or four year college or university or acknowledgement by the college that the process is under way
