BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STUDENT ATTENDANCE REMINDERS & UPDATES

September is Attendance Awareness Month.
Please visit our Attendance Awareness Month Toolkit for more info on Attendance Awareness Month and visit to find out exactly how your site is doing! Saturday September 30th we will host our 2nd annual Attendance Awareness Month Community Event at Baker Elementary.

We want all sites to build a culture of attendance within your community. Message Attendance from the first day- Do you have an Attendance Bulletin Board at the front of your school? Here are some fun and easy messaging ideas! Including 2 click- COPY-PASTE templates for Social Media. Let鈥檚 Goooo Graphics, and more in our 23/24 care Messaging Folder. Do you have our NEW fliers available for parents in your front office? If not, Here you go:

Print them out and hand them to parents when they drop their students off late or pick them up early.

We鈥檝e been getting a lot of questions about Attendance Related/No Show exiting of students. Here is a  the care Team put together from CDE and the . READ carefully. We must follow . Start today by identifying all of the students at your site who have not attended at all, these are your 鈥渘o shows.鈥 You may be able to exit them鈥.but please read and then contact our team if you still have questions.

Do you have a new Attendance staff at your site? Complete  to set up training for them. Please allow 2-3 school days for a response, as we are working with a small but mighty team.

One last reminder for our site leaders: This year we are working hard to strengthen our processes and procedures. One item Attendance Staff need your support on is ensuring that teachers submit their daily class attendance timely. This is  and District Policy.

Elementary K-6 should have attendance submitted within the first hour of the school day. A 9 am start time campus should have all attendance submitted by 10 am.

Secondary, or period based attendance, should have all attendance submitted within the first 15 mins of a class period. We understand this can be especially challenging for PE teachers. Perhaps a tablet or iPad may help? If this is something all sites agree is needed, we can look into possibly assisting with funding? Let me know your thoughts.

This is not only for good record keeping, this is also a safety concern. If students are 鈥渕issing鈥 we need to know right away. If Attendance Staff let you know that attendance is not being submitted timely by one or more teachers, please support them by following up with your teachers. Without this attendance they cannot effectively process today鈥檚 attendance.

Also, be on the lookout for SCUSD鈥檚 NEW Truancy Letter Process. ALL letters will be mailed centrally, so ALL site staff, including K-6, are no longer responsible for stuffing envelopes. More info to come next week.

Lastly, THANK YOU! Please continue to prioritize reducing absences and improving attendance. 95% of student success is Showing-Up!
