Christine Baeta Receives National Award for Lifetime Commitment of Advocacy for Students with Disabilities

SACRAMENTO - 麻豆视频 City Unified School District Chief Academic Officer Christine Baeta this week was awarded by the National Center for Learning Disabilities as an Everyday Champion for students with disabilities. This award, which is given to three individuals each year, is given to one administrator, one teacher, and one parent who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advocacy and work on behalf of students with disabilities. Ms. Baeta received the Administrator Award. 

鈥淲orking on behalf of students with disabilities has been a lifelong commitment for me as an educator, and as a person,鈥 said Chief Academic Officer Christine Baeta. 鈥淚鈥檓 the mom of four beautiful children. My firstborn daughter was born with cerebral palsy, and my three sons had learning differences. I wanted to be involved in their classrooms and as I got more involved, it didn鈥檛 take long for me to realize that working with students with disabilities would be my life鈥檚 work. As an educator, I strive to make sure that my families know that they have an advocate right there with them through this journey.鈥

Ms. Baeta joined the district in November 2018. She began her tenure at Sac City Unified as an Instructional Assistant Superintendent and previously worked at Elk Grove Unified School District as a principal.

At the District鈥檚 board meeting last night, Sac City Unified Superintendent Jorge Aguilar announced the achievement to the community: 

鈥淚 am extremely proud of Sac City Unified Chief Academic Officer Christine Baeta鈥檚 recognition by the National Center for Learning Disabilities as an Everyday Champion for her lifelong commitment to students with disabilities,鈥 said Superintendent Jorge Aguilar. 鈥 I cannot say enough how proud we are of Ms. Baeta and how honored we are that she is part of our team at Sac City Unified.鈥

Criteria for the winner of the Administrator Award includes:

  • Dedication to students with learning and attention issues and their families
  • Individual models integrity, fairness, compassion, and resiliency
  • Provides school leadership in developing and carrying out instructional or social practices to promote achievement and participation of students with learning and attention issues
  • Provides outstanding support for students with learning disabilities at the administrator level that: 
    • Creates a cultures of valuing, sharing, and celebrating students with learning and attention issues within the school community
    • Advocates for persons with learning disabilities
