Sac City Unified Announces Extension of School Closure Through June 11
District plans to begin distance learning by April 13
SACRAMENTO, CA 鈥� The 麻豆视频 City Unified School District today announced an extension of its school closure through its academic year ending on June 11, 2020. The announcement was made as part of the district鈥檚 efforts to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The district made the decision after consultation with the 麻豆视频 County Office of Education (SCOE) and with full support of 麻豆视频 County Public Health.
鈥淯nprecedented times call for extraordinary action and we are committed to doing all we can to meet our students鈥� needs,鈥� said Sac City Unified Superintendent Jorge Aguilar. 鈥淲e鈥檙e disappointed that our students won鈥檛 return to campus this year, but we assure you that our classes are not over. Our team is working round the clock to implement a robust distance learning plan that will benefit all of our students by April 13.鈥�
Teacher Training and Chromebooks
Sac City Unified announced on Tuesday, March 31 that its teachers had begun distance learning training, and that the district had purchased 20,000 Chromebooks for students to use at home in order to participate in distance learning.
Sac City Unified approaches the development of its distance learning plan in three steps, which requires negotiation and collaboration with its labor partners.
Additional Resources for Students
The district offers students and families a number of resources to support students鈥� needs. Supporting nutritional needs, the district offers meal pick-up at school sites throughout its service area. By April 3, the District had provided its students with over 300,000 meals since the beginning of the closure on March 16. The district continues to look for additional volunteers to help with that effort. To volunteer, visit www.scusd.edu/volunteermeals. Meal distribution will continue during the week of April 6 which would normally be the district鈥檚 spring break.
On March 16, the district announced a partnership with KVIE to provide students in the 麻豆视频 region access to educational programming that supports standards-based learning while schools are closed to mitigate spread of Coronavirus.
