SACRAMENTO, CA – In its search for a new Superintendent, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District Board of Education has selected Mr. Jorge Aguilar as its finalist. Mr. Aguilar currently serves as the Associate Superintendent for Equity and Access at Fresno Unified School District and is recognized as a state and national education leader.

SACRAMENTO — The Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District today issued the following statement regarding the recent events in Charlottesville:
The tragic events in Charlottesville are a sad reminder that racism, hate, and bigotry are still very much alive in our society. These are incredibly challenging times for our nation and its youth, and a strong reminder of why our district designated itself a Safe Haven School District.
To Eliminate Budget Deficit And Protect Funding For Students, Sac City Unified Board of Education and Superintendent Call On Employees To Make “Shared Sacrificesâ€
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District announced in a video statement on Wednesday that it has managed to find millions in cost savings, with most cuts being made away from the classroom. However, Superintendent Aguilar and Board President Jessie Ryan warned that these cuts will not be enough to entirely address the district’s structural deficit. Both leaders called on district employees to rise to the occasion and make shared sacrifices to eliminate the structural budget deficit. .

We understand that many of our families count on us to provide students with a safe and supervised environment to go to during the day. We take this responsibility very seriously and before making the decision to keep our schools open, we did check on the air quality conditions at our schools and consulted with leadership at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Air Quality Management District.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Athletic Field at Hiram Johnson High School

What: After decades of playing on an old and outdated field, student athletes at Hiram Johnson High School can finally celebrate the grand opening of a new athletic field and facility paid for with voter approved bond money. To celebrate the grand opening of the new field, members of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified Board of Education, Superintendent, student athletes, coaches, teachers and school staff will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony.
2016-2017 Graduation Rates Released
The California Department of Education has released Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District’s graduation, dropout and A-G completion rates for the 2016-17 cohort. In our district the graduation rate increased by 0.5 percent, from 81.4 to 81.9 percent.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified Board of Education Approves 2018-19 School District Budget, Faces $24.3M Deficit
SACRAMENTO, CA – On Thursday night, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified Board of Education unanimously approved a $555.3 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year. In recent years the district has been facing a number of significant cost increases to cover its obligations, including a state-mandated increase in the amount school districts have to pay for pension contributions administered by CalPERS and CalSTRS and rising health care costs. To balance the budget, the district projects it will need to spend $24.3 million from its reserves in the 2018-19 fiscal year.
