High School Specialty Programs

Our high school specialty programs offer students the opportunity to dive deeper into an area of interest that may support a future career pathway. These free public education programs give students a chance to learn about industries outside of standard core subjects, like culinary arts, digital media, criminal justice, construction and more.

As the oldest high school in the City of Â鶹ÊÓƵ, C.K. McClatchy High School has established a tradition of academic excellence, athletic competitiveness, and unwavering school spirit and pride in the cardinal red and white. Parent Information Exchange (P.I.E.)
Working Together For Student Success
The Parent Information Exchange (P.I.E.) was established as an opportunity for SCUSD parents and school site and district staff to exchange information with community agencies providing free and low-cost services to students and their families.
The Family and Community Empowerment Department coordinates the monthly luncheon meetings that bring together key representatives from school parent groups, SCUSD staff, community organizations, city and county agencies and business partners to discuss their programs and services for families. The meetings are designed to create ever-growing partnerships with resources that will support the educational, health and emotional development of our students.
C.K. McClatchy Dance VAPA Program
Grades 9-12
Program Information
The CKM VAPA dance company is a four-year experience designed to introduce, refine, critique, and elevate dance techniques in jazz, ballet, musical theater, hip hop, modern, contemporary/lyrical, cultural dances, and student-inspired dance styles. Students will be exposed to professional level dancing by attending local and non-local performances. Students will study dance techniques as well as history, culture, and theory. Students will explore improvisation and choreographic form.
C.K. McClatchy Music VAPA Program
Grades 9-12
Program Information
The McClatchy High School VAPA Music Program is committed to the musical development of its members. Students of the program enroll in either Concert Band, Orchestra, or Choir all four years of high school. Despite emphasizing instruction through traditional music ensembles, all music-literate instrumentalists and vocalists such as guitarists and pianists are welcome to participate.
C.K. McClatchy Theater VAPA Program
Grades 9-12
Program Information
CKM VAPA Theater is a four-year program that explores theater literature, performance, and historical and cultural connections. Improvisation, creative dramatics, and scene work connect students to acting and character development. Theater courses provide opportunities for students to develop critical listening and thinking skills, stage presence, and ensemble work, culminating in periodic classroom performances. Theater gives students an opportunity to develop fundamental assessment and problem-solving skills.
