SCUSD elementary school students will taste-test vegetable dishes crafted by five high-profile 麻豆视频 chefs next week as part of Food Literacy Center鈥檚 fourth annual Veggie of the Year competition.

SCUSD鈥檚 Board votes to support 鈥榮afe haven鈥 schools

麻豆视频 City Unified School District鈥檚 Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to designate SCUSD schools as 鈥渟afe havens鈥 that protect students regardless of immigration status.

鈥淪tudents cannot learn in an environment of fear,鈥 said Board Vice President Jessie Ryan. 鈥淟ast night, by unanimously passing the Safe Haven School District resolution, our district made a strong statement that we hear our community鈥檚 fears and will do everything in our power to protect all students irrespective of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual preference or immigration status.鈥

Superintendent Banda鈥檚 statement on Measure G
Parcel tax would have generated $6 million-$7 million annually for SCUSD schools

November 17, 2016 (麻豆视频):  麻豆视频 City Unified School District Superintendent Jos茅 L. Banda today thanked supporters of Measure G and expressed disappointment over the initiative鈥檚 narrow defeat at the polls.

Measure G was supported by 65 percent of 麻豆视频 voters 鈥 just short of the two-thirds needed for passage. Although more voters cast ballots in favor of Measure G than Proposition 55 鈥 a statewide tax measure 鈥 Measure G failed to reach the supermajority required by law.

SCUSD to host community meeting on future of Old Marshall School

April 4, 2016 (麻豆视频): 麻豆视频 City Unified School District is hosting a community meeting on Tuesday (April 5) to discuss the future of Old Marshall School, which has been vacant since 2009.

Marshall School was built in 1903 and designed by Rudolph Harold, a locally prominent architect who designed City Hall. Located at 2718 G St., it was used as an elementary school until 1976, when it was closed due to concerns about its ability to withstand an earthquake.

April 26, 2016 (麻豆视频): 麻豆视频 City Unified School District Board Member Jay Hansen and City Councilman Steve Hansen are co-hosting a community meeting on Thursday (April 28) to discuss the future of Jefferson School at 16th and N streets in Midtown.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 520 18th St.

School orchard destroyed by vandals to be replanted on Saturday
Donors, volunteers will work to rebuild part of Pacific Elementary School鈥檚 鈥渙utdoor classroom鈥

January 27, 2016 (麻豆视频):  With the help of volunteers and community donations, a school orchard destroyed by vandals will be replanted on Saturday morning (January 30).

Fourteen young fruit-bearing trees were destroyed at Pacific Elementary School (6201 41st St.) on November 15. Vandals ripped off branches and pulled trees from the ground, dragging some across campus. The orchard was only about a year old, installed in the fall of 2014 by the group Common Visions in partnership with The California Endowment, Soil Born Farms and SCUSD.
