English Learner Master Plan
The primary purpose of the English Learner Master Plan is:
- To provide the district and the schools with a clear statement of policies related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of English learner programs and services.
- To provide specific procedural guidelines for the identification, assessment, and placement of students; reclassification of students; notification and involvement of parents; the formation and functioning of the District English Learner Advisory Committee and site English Learner Advisory Committees; the annual evaluation of English learner programs; and the use of state and federal funds for EL programs and services.
- To align policies and procedures with current state and federal mandates.
Head Start/State Full-Day Preschool Program
This is a free or reduced cost program based on family size and income. This option is for families that are working, in school, incapacitated or seeking employment. Families may receive up to 7 hours of child care services based on the parent’s documented need.
Early Learning and Care Programs
SCUSD’s Early Learning and Care programs provide continuous comprehensive center-based and home-based services to expectant families, infants/toddlers, preschool and school-age children. Children have a natural curiosity and desire to learn so they are engaged in active learning with teachers providing learning experiences based on best practices reflecting how children develop and learn. We believe that a close home/school connection is essential for children to reach their full potential.
Multilingual Literacy
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Unified School District ELD/ELA departments celebrate and amplify the identities of all English Learners. We affirm that the unique needs and identities each student brings to their classrooms are an asset to the school community. We strive to provide equitable access to rigorous instruction and develop a community of responsible learners who are inspired to be curious and feel empowered to direct their own learning and engage with their community.
