If a student has an EpiPen, it should only be used by that student, and it should be taken on field trips with its owner. The stock EpiPens stay at school and do not go on field trips.
Which EpiPen to use?

EpiPen: For adults and children weighing over 66 lbs. 3rd grade or above
EpiPen Jr.: For children weighing 33-66 lbs. 2nd grade or younger
(use only EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. in cases – the other one is for training)
When in doubt, use the more potent EpiPen.

- It feels like something is poking my tongue.
- My tongue or mouth is tingling or burning or itches.
- My tongue feels like there is hair on it.
- My mouth feels funny.
- My lips feel tight.
- My tongue feels full (or heavy).
- It feels like a bump is on the back of my throat.
- There’s a frog in my throat or something is stuck in it.
- It feels like there are bugs in there (to describe itchy ears).
Who can administer EpiPens?

- School Nurses
- Trained volunteer employees who have been designated by the school
Remember, this is totally voluntary. There will be an annual call for volunteers to learn EpiPen administration and identify serious allergic reactions.
Purpose of SB 1266 (Emergency Epinephrine Auto-injectors Law)

Schools shall be provided epinephrine auto-injectors (EpiPens) in order to provide emergency medical aid to persons suffering, or reasonably believed to be suffering, from an anaphylactic reaction.
