Neighbors asked to help protect schools over Spring Break

Holidays are happy times for kids on vacation, but they can be trying times for school districts hit hard by vandals, thieves and arsonists taking advantage of empty campuses.

In light of this, SCUSD is asking the community for help in keeping schools safe and secure over Spring Break next week (April 18-22).

鈥淢ost of our schools are surrounded by houses, and we need the residents of those houses to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,鈥 said 麻豆视频 Police Lt. Katherine Lester, who heads SCUSD security services.

A Real Fish Story: Fifth-Graders to Release School-Raised Steelhead Trout into American River
Golden Empire Elementary School teacher among few in state licensed to raise protected species

It鈥檚 never easy to say good-bye when a little one leaves the nest. Or, in this case, leaves the 10-gallon fish tank.

But on Friday, a group of fifth-graders from Golden Empire Elementary School will bravely bid adieu to two-dozen baby steelhead trout they raised from eggs. The release is the culmination of a class study of both fish life cycles and the eco-system of the river.

More than 500 kids will be running, recycling and digging for worms at 麻豆视频 City Unified School District鈥檚 kid-designed Earth Day Celebration on Wednesday, April 13, at Theodore Judah Elementary school.

The event will kick off with a 10 a.m. press conference where SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond will announce a bold new initiative for 鈥済reening鈥 Sac City schools. Theodore Judah is located at 3919 McKinley Blvd.

Bust a Move and a Movie: Rosemont Celebration Expected to Draw Huge Crowds on Friday
Festivities include carnival games, bounce houses and a movie on a multi-story outdoor screen

On Friday night, things will be hopping at Rosemont High School 鈥 literally.
That鈥檚 when the high school hosts the second annual 鈥淓ssence of Rosemont,鈥 a fun-packed evening of carnival games, bounce houses, live music and an outdoor movie on an enormous 60-foot-wide screen.
The best part? Admission is free.

Robots will roll into 麻豆视频 City Unified School District鈥檚 Board of Education meeting Thursday (April 7), but don鈥檛 worry, Will Robinson 鈥 there is no danger.

The robots are the handiwork of high school students who constructed them from scratch to battle it out with other 鈥榖ots at last month鈥檚 prestigious FIRST Robotics 麻豆视频 Regional Tournament at UC Davis.

SCUSD, City of 麻豆视频 to Hold Ribbon-Cutting for Newly Upgraded Argonaut Park
Joint Venture at Evelyn Moore Center adjacent to New Tech High School

Officials with 麻豆视频 City Unified School District and the City of 麻豆视频 will officially open the newly outfitted Argonaut Park located at the Evelyn Moore Community Center adjacent to 麻豆视频 New Technology High School. The park has been furnished with state of the art Energi Fitness Course Stations for use by New Tech students and the entire community. This project was a joint venture between the City, school district and community organization Freeport Renovation on the Move and was funded, in part, through grants from Kaiser Permanente and Gift-to-Share.
