June 17, 2013 (麻豆视频):  Vandals, arsonists and metal thieves cost the 麻豆视频 City Unified School District more than $100,000 a year 鈥� money the cash-strapped district cannot afford.

That鈥檚 why SCUSD is asking the community for help in keeping schools safe and secure over the long summer break which stretches until the first Tuesday after Labor Day in September.

August 5, 2013 (麻豆视频): 麻豆视频 City Unified School District will hold a 鈥渢own hall鈥�-type forum on budget issues from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (August 7).

Parents, staff and community members are invited to ask questions and get important information about the district鈥檚 finances during the two-hour meeting.

August 7, 2013 (麻豆视频):  Arson fires over the past week severely damaged expensive playground structures at two 麻豆视频 City Unified School District campuses, school and fire officials confirmed today. Because of the extent of the damage and state鈥檚 school construction review process, it is unlikely that either school will open with playground structures in the fall, officials said.

August 29, 2013 (麻豆视频):  麻豆视频 Unified Education Foundation 鈥� SCUSD鈥檚 official nonprofit organization 鈥� will kick off fundraising for two arson-damaged playgrounds with an event at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School on Tuesday, SCUSD鈥檚 first day of school.

At the event, the group will reveal a donor who has made a significant contribution toward the $50,000 needed to cover the district鈥檚 costs for replacing playground structures at Wenzel and John Sloat elementary schools.

September 3, 2013 (麻豆视频):  麻豆视频 Unified Education Foundation 鈥� SCUSD鈥檚 official nonprofit organization 鈥� kicked off fundraising for two arson-damaged playgrounds today at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School.

September 9, 2013 (麻豆视频):  SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and 麻豆视频 City Councilman Kevin McCarty will announce a plan for improving the safety of a Fruitridge Road crosswalk at a press conference on Wednesday, September 11.

September 11, 2013 (麻豆视频):  SCUSD and City of 麻豆视频 officials announced on Wednesday that they have joined forces to install a traffic signal at a Fruitridge Road crossing where a West Campus High School student lost her life 20 months ago.

Michelle Murigi, 16, was hit by a car in the crosswalk at 58th Street at Fruitridge Road on January 19, 2012, and died from her injuries. Subsequent to her death, five of Michelle鈥檚 friends and classmates started a petition to demand a traffic signal at the intersection (www.facebook.com/58thAndFruitridge).

September 24, 2013 (麻豆视频):  The group that sued 麻豆视频 City Unified School District over the closure of seven chronically under-enrolled schools has voluntarily agreed to the dismissal of their complaint against the district and the case has been dismissed by a federal judge.

鈥淲ith dismissal of this lawsuit, SCUSD can focus its attention and precious resources on preparing every student at every school for college and 21st century careers, which is the district鈥檚 mission,鈥� SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond said.

October 4, 2013 (麻豆视频):  SCUSD is staging a series of workshops to give parents hands-on experience with the new Common Core State Standards.
Parents attending the sessions will be challenged to write to essay prompts, annotate informational texts, flex their speaking and listening skills and solve math problems 鈥� all strategies associated with the new standards. By the end of a three-part series, parents will have a clear picture of how Common Core standards are changing SCUSD classrooms.
