Response to Public Comment

Question:  Why is the waiver for Joseph Bonnheim not on the agenda?

The Board of Education’s Executive Committee places items on the agenda. The request for a waiver has been considered by the Board’s Executive Committee and the agenda as posted reflects the committee’s decision.

Question: Why can’t I find out when the Executive Committee meets to discuss the Board agenda?

As the Executive Committee does not constitute a quorum, meetings of the Executive Committee are not subject to the Brown Act.

Question:  What is the role of the Student Board member?

The student board member is the voice of SCUSD students on the Board of Education. The student board member provides input and information, comments on issues and reports on the activities of SCUSD students. The student board member also votes on decisions, although the vote is advisory. It is an important role.

Question:  How much has been spent on school closure?

SCUSD has spent $140,581 from the General Fund on school closures. As part of the anticipated savings projected, the amount of $110,000 was for budgeted closure expenditures. This amount did not include moving stipends for teachers. These are one-time costs.
